Even with an award-winning vehicle like those in the Volvo lineup, cars need proper maintenance and upkeep to last. It’s easy to forget about your auto service to-dos in day-to-day life, which makes it important to start off the new year with the right habits.
And Schumacher Volvo Cars of the Palm Beaches is here to help. Read out New Year’s resolution checklist for your car below, and kick off 2020 the right way.
Checklist: Auto Maintenance and Service for the New Year
Regular oil changes
You’ll want to get an oil change about every 3 months, or 3,000 miles.
Tire pressure checks
Make sure to check your tire pressure on a regular basis, especially if you’re going on a long drive.
Battery tests
Get your car battery tested at least twice a year. You’ll likely need to get your battery replaced every three to four years.
Brake checks
Get your brakes checked when you get your oil changed. Brake pads often need to be replaced after 50,000 miles.
Tire maintenance
Rotate your tires every 6 months, or every 6,000 to 8,000 miles. Tires usually need to be replaced after six to ten years on average.
Vehicle emergency kit
Stay prepared for anything that may happen on the road, by keeping an emergency kit in your car. This kit should include:
- Flashlight
- Bottled water
- Snacks
- Blankets
- Extra cell phone charger
- Jumper cables
- Road flares
- First aid kit
- Tire jack
- And while a spare tire won’t fit in a kit, you’ll still want to have it on hand in your vehicle
Stay patient and calm on the road
Even if you keep up on your vehicle maintenance to-dos, getting angry or frustrated while driving could put you and your car at risk. Remember to breath deep breaths and stay patient while on the road.
Keep this checklist handy
Make it easy to take care of your car by keeping this checklist on your refrigerator or anywhere else it’s easily visible. You can also keep a note in your vehicle, so you think about it every time you go for a drive.
